Hello! I’m Tony Sullivan, and I’m a photographer, journalist and copywriter based in Bournemouth, UK. Let me tell you a bit about how I became a photographer…
Born and raised in North Wales, I first picked up a ‘proper’ camera, a Pentax ME Super, in 1982. I had, until then, been using ‘point and shoot’ cameras, but not getting the results I wanted.
At the time, I knew nothing about the science and techniques involved in the crafting of a good image. But I did know that I had this powerful urge to translate my ideas into actual images. This meant ‘take better pictures’. So I set out to learn as much as I could.
Ever since then, I’ve continued learning. That’s what I love about photography – it is, for me, the perfect mix of art and science, and there is always something new to learn or experiment with.
I have had several different jobs over the years – professional diver, salesman, business manager, and teacher, but three years ago I decided to pursue photography full time.
I specialise in two main areas: portraiture and photojournalism. However, on my journey I have passed through many different styles. Underwater photography, sports, landscapes, product and advertising photography, studio, fashion, and wildlife.
Each style has added valuable tools and experience to my skill set. I also earned several qualifications in photography and journalism along the way.
I am based in Bournemouth, on the south coast of England, but I travel extensively. Truly, my ‘studio’ is the whole world!
I’m available for commissions anywhere. I am experienced in the fields of Portraiture, Sport, Commercial, Editorial, PR, copywriting and Retouching.
